Bruins Fly Past Hawks 35-7

Brentwood 35, Rossview 7

Game Notes:

With Jeremy Coffey resting a sore "upper body injury", Roman Mitchell stepped up big time with 21 carries for 137 yards and 3 TDs. He showed a great combination of slick lateral moves and raw power running between the tackles.

As usual, when you have a big rushing performance you got to show some love for the O-line. Great work last night from Josh Wilson, Andrew Smith, Matt Bridges, Taylor Valien and Lucas Patrick.

It was another great night for triple threat Jordan Evans as he caught 3 passes from Clay Webber for 90 yards and 2 TDs, added 31 yards on 6 carries and 17 yards on kick returns. Thats 137 yards of total offense. What great moves he put on the Rossview defensive backs on both TDs. It sure is fun watching #5 play football!

Let's not forget the field general Clay Webber who completed 7 passes on 14 attempts for 153 yards and 2 TDs. He had great touch on his throws all night. Clay also added 12 yards rushing on 3 carries.

And you can't leave out the defense. They were one trick "hook and lateral" play away from a shutout. Another group that doesn't get a lot of recognition (though they do accumulate tackle stats) is the defensive line. So here's to Graham Slaughter, Tristan Dodds, Stephen Wade, Nicholas Coffey and Jacob Norfleet (out this week with another "upper body injury").

Until last night #90 Greg Stone owned the only jersey number in the 90s. That's now changed as 9 fortunate freshman have been called up to dress with the varsity for this playoff run. Congratulations to Austin Winfree, David Meehan, Ben Green, Logan Tiechman, Preston Williams, Will Wood, Jackson Overton, Adam Thetford and Matthew Morris. What a thrill for these young men to get their first taste of standing on the sidelines under the Friday night lights.

Next week our old Region 6 nemesis Dickson County comes to James C. Parker Stadium for the 2nd round game.

Not sure what the formulas are that TSSAA used to determine the seeding for this tournament. Only one of the four #1 seeds survived last night, our week 9 opponent Blackman. Overall the lower seed won 7 of the 16 first round games.

Win and advance!
