Bruins 19, Green Wave 14; Freshman improve to 4-0

Bruins 19, Green Wave 14

Game Notes:
Jeremy Coffey now owns the top two spots in the Brentwood single game rushing record book. His 226-yard effort last night is only eclipsed by his 229 yards against Lavergne on August 21st (Click "Individual Records" under the HISTORY tab above). Great work, young man!

You can't have success with the power run game without help from the big fellas up front. Here's to Alex Guth, Matt Bridges, Taylor Valien, Andrew Smith, Josh Wilson, Lucas Patrick and any of the other deserving young men who help pave the way.

Opponents can't just focus on Jeremy though, Clay Webber's 49-yard strike to Daniel Hagaman for the first score of the night proves there are plenty of arrows in the quiver. Oh, and there's Jordan Evans who can shred you if you pay too much attention to Jeremy and Clay.

Though not as dramatic as the last second game winner against Indy, for the 2nd time this year Brian Davis field goals prove to be the margin of victory. And then there's the booming kickoffs that continue to give opposing offenses the long row to hoe. Gotta have that great kicking game to be successful.

With a 5-1 record the Bruins are one game past the midpoint of the season and still have lots of work to do. Not to overlook 1-4 Centennial and 1-5 Hillsboro but overlooking them the Bruins have No. 3 Blackman and No. 7 Franklin in the coming weeks. The Franklin game should be for the District 11 AAA title.

Game Notes from Stat Man, Chris Sanders:
  • Jeremy Coffey broke 200 rushing yards again, with 226 total on 25 carries (plus one TD)
  • Little brother Nick Coffey had 2 sacks (BHS's only sacks of the game)
  • Austin Johnson 3 tackles & 2 passes broken-up (first game of the season for  Johnson)
  • Cameron Croy 13 tackles
  • GHS 25 rushing yards 1st half, 105 2nd half
  • GHS 14 passing attempts & 64 yards 1st half, 4 attempts & 4 yards 2nd half
  • Brian Davis, 2 of 5 Kickoffs touch backs (2 others to the 1 yard line)
  • Chudi Echetebu 2 Special Teams tackles (10 total for the season)

FRESHMAN DRAW FIRST BLOOD AGAINST THE GREEN WAVE

Congratulations to the Freshman on their 28-24 win over the Green Wave on Thursday night. The cubs jumped out to a big lead and didn't look back. Gallatin closed the margin late in the game after a long drive against the reserves then got a break recovering the onside kick for another short drive. But the Bruins responded with a grinding 12-play drive that burned 6:25 off of the clock and ended on the GW 2 yard line with Austin Winfree taking a knee as time expired.

It was a big night for tail back, Isaac Martinez who scored 3 TDs on carries of 1, 1 and 4 yards. Jake Driver also added a TD on a sweep around right end to give him 3 TDs for the season. Martinez, Driver and QB Austin Winfree all share the season lead for TDs with 3 apiece. This season's remaining TDs belong to Isaac's brother Aaron who has a rushing TD and an interception return for a TD, Blake Chidester who has a kickoff return for a TD (and kicked 8 PATs) and Austin Pennell with 1 rushing TD. Looks like the cupboard is well stocked for the coming years.
